Ume Sami in the church – past, present, future?
Jörn's library, Skellefteå
Samuel Hellgren works, among other things, with Sami confirmation camps, a context that is important for strengthening the Sami identity and culture of young Sami. To seek their faith in the language of their hearts, and to give young Sami the opportunity to gather and share their experiences.
Through his work, he has contributed to raising awareness of Sami issues within the church, not least the importance of hearing and speaking the language of one's heart even in the context of the church. He has a personal commitment to the Ume Sami language, which affects both his work and private life. In tonight's lecture, we get a picture of how the importance of Ume Sami has been within the Church of Sweden from the 17th century to the present day. And we get to think about the question: what might the future look like?
Welcome to an exciting lecture evening at Jörn's Library!
