Sami between the lines - Sami week in Jörn

Welcome to an exciting lecture during Sámi vahkkuo Jyörasne – Sámi Week in Jörn.

At first glance, Sara Lidman's novels may seem to lack elements of the Forest Sami language. However, local historian Joakim Bergdahl has chosen to take a closer look from a Sami language perspective. With carefully selected words and phrases from Tjärdalen, Hjortronlandet, and the Jernbane series, he presents a previously overlooked viewpoint.

For the third consecutive year, Sámi vahkkuo Jyörasne is being organized, offering a week filled with lectures, inspiration, facts, films, food, and much more. All events are free and open to everyone.

Come and explore the Sami culture, which has always been a natural part of both Jyörra – Jörn and the coastal municipalities of Västerbotten. Learn about Sami place names in the area, the indigenous Ume Sami language and its role in church life, the Forest Sami elements in Sara Lidman’s novels, and get book recommendations by Sami authors.
