Join us for an inspiring talk with Laura Vidje from Rundbalshuset, featured on SVT’s Husdrömmar. She’ll share insights on sustainable building, lessons from her own journey, and the benefits of clay as a construction material. You’ll also have the chance to get hands-on with different clay samples and ask questions. NOTE! In Swedish.
In 2017, Laura and her husband Erik set out to build a straw bale house outside Umeå. Designing Rundbalshuset (the Round Bale House) from scratch, they combined traditional and modern techniques to create a healthy, comfortable, and resilient home suited to the Nordic climate.
On April 9th, Laura will be in Skellefteå to talk about their experience and the role of clay in construction. She’ll dive into key aspects of homebuilding, including design, energy, water and sewage systems, ventilation, sustainable materials, reuse, and interior design. She’ll also demonstrate how to apply and smooth clay plaster on board materials. The talk wraps up with a Q&A session, where you’ll get to explore different clay samples up close.

"We build with clay because it’s one of the best materials out there—people have used it for thousands of years. We mix large amounts of sand from our own land into homemade clay plaster, and it’s incredibly fun to work with! Clay plaster is a natural, non-toxic building material. That said, it does contain straw and locally sourced horse manure." – Laura Vidje
