In the middle of the harvest month of August, 15 farms around Bureå, Lövånger änd Burträsk will be opening their doors to the public. The idea is to let visitors discover the amazing range of locally produced food available in the region.
– We would like to introduce local, small-scale food production to a wider audience”, explains Ulrica, chairman of the MatTuren association. It is MatTuren’s fourth year. The event is highly appreciated and grows every year.
– New producers have joined and even more people wish to visit our farms.”
Last summer, some farms were visited by up to 300 people.
– Then it’s full speed ahead, she says with a laugh. This year, food will also be served at a few selected farms.
KRÄKÅNGERS EKOGÅRD (ORGANIC FARM), in the village of Lövsele, Lövånger is run by husband and wife Margaretha and Stefan Olsson. At their farm, they grow potatoes, cabbages, carrots and a wealth of other vegetables. Their organic production is certified according to KRAV and supervised by the certification board Kiwa. BERGSÅKERSGÅRDEN is a sheep farm in Lövsele, out by the sea, providing KRAV-certified organic sheep farming and a charming farm boutique. BURTRÄSK SALUHALL (MARKET HALL). In the middle of Burträsk is the Burträsk Market Hall, an economic association with 11 members in the Burträsk region who have come together to sell their, often unique, goods in the market hall. Here you will find bread, cookies, pastries, marmalade, honey, smoked products, pork from free-range pigs, mutton, beef and many charcuteries such as salami, a range of sausages, thinly sliced meats, hamburgers and sausage burgers. JÄRVTJÄRNS UTEGRISAR (FREE-RANGE PIGS) At the farm in Järvtjärn you will find a bunch of happy free-range pigs playing in the mud. They walk freely in the pen that contains grazing areas, some forest and an old timber summer barn. The farm is small-scale and here the whole family helps take care of the pigs. They are tame and happy to come up to you. The farm sells meat boxes, cuts, sausages, liver pâté and smoked products. HÖKMARK 322. At this farm, various cabbages, vegetables and root fruits are grown. During MatTuren, they will be serving carrot soup with homemade bread. AURORAGÅRDENS HANDELSBOD (FARMHOUSE STORE) sells locally produced food from Svedjan Cheese, the Klutmark Bakery, Lilla musteriet (the Little Cider Factory), Lilla Hantverksbageriet (the Little Artisan Bakery), Tant Ruth från Släppträsk (local produce), Svanselegrönt (local produce), Västerbottenkorv (sausages) and Glommersbär (berries). Pork from the Järvtjärn free-range pigs, mutton from Brönet, Degerbyn and beef from local farmers. They also produce charcuteries such as grilled roast beef, home smoked bacon and ham. When in season, eggs from hens, quails, turkeys and ducks living on the farm are also sold. Poultry and rabbits from the region are prepared on the farm and sold in the farmhouse store. RENBERGSVATTNETS LANTBRUK (FARM) Here you will find a ninth-generation family business producing milk and meat. In summer, the animals graze outside, on grounds that could scarcely be managed with modern machinery, which in turn contributes to a living cultural landscape. KROKNÄS GÅRD (FARM). Here, vegetables are grown from seed to plant. The soil is free of any pesticides and only natural manure from the farm’s horses, wood ash stone meal, compost and nettle water are used as fertilisers. Natural compounds that enrich microbial life and make the soil sound and healthy.
